Reaction Paper of World Economic Forum Essay

Child labor refers to the employment of children at regular and sustained labor. This practice is considered exploitative by many international organizations and is illegal in many countries. Child labor was employed to varying extents through most of history, but entered public dispute with the advent of universal schooling, with changes in working conditions during the industrial revolution, and with the emergence of the concepts of workers’ and children’s rights. This definition is from the Wikipedia. Why does this exist? To whom will be the blame be given? Is it the parents, who raised their children to work, or the children themselves who decided to work to overcome hunger and thirst for survival? Is it the government that has to be responsible to this or this is all because of the inevitable poverty we are now experiencing today? For me, I have to blame all because in each problem of the society we encounter, it is not always that it is only a problem of one but rather it is a problem of all. We tend to forget that the ones affected to this kind of problem are also of our kind, Filipinos. We should always remember this statement, â€Å"One for all, and all for one.† I have mentioned above that are the parents to blame for this kind of problem. I say yes, a big yes for me. Why? It is simply because the parents are the first people that the child may know and they are the one who nurtures the child. Moreover, the parents are the one responsible if ever their children have nothing to eat and wear for everyday living. The parents in the society are expected to provide all their children needs for the bore them not to be slaves in the family. The parents are expected to give the right to education for their children to earn knowledge and not send them to factories that would bring them sickness just to earn money. But now, all the expected things turned out wrong. Some parents even do not mind if their children are already at the streets asking alms, some are into drugs, and some engage to crimes such as robbery and prostitution. If I were the parent, I had rather just send them to DSWD and see them eating and playing than watching them earn a living at the young age. I do not say that putting the child to DSWD is another irresponsible act the parent had made but it will be the best alternative answer to the problem. Are the children also to blame? I can say that the children have also something to deal with this. Even if the child is only four years old and has no sense of maturity yet, the child has something to play with this. Sometimes, it is the children’s decision to work for their families. They are working not because they want to eat, but rather gave the money to their parents, hoping that this money results to something that is good for their stomachs. In some cases, the children also are the ones that decide to leave the family because they see that the family cannot give the happiness they are asking for. So, the children have no choice but to leave independently and find their own living. The worst is that the children may engage into crimes such as killing, stealing, and prostitution. This is really happening in the society today. I can share an experience of one of our maids of our family. I admit that we hired her at her minority age. She was only 15 when she entered our home. After months of working in our house, we had already given her our trust. One day, we invited her to come into our lola’s house for the fiesta. She agreed to come rather than staying at home alone, and we wanted her to come because maybe she will be stealing anything from the house without our knowledge. We cannot give all our trust to a certain person right? Anyways, we had the time to go to the beach. The tide was so low that the sea was very far from the shore. Our maid never knew that the water was shallow. The dived and end up with bleeding wounds in her face. We immediately went home to cure her wounds. When we went home to back in Tacloban, she was not feeling easy. I think that the scars in her face made her actions limited and a little bit more conservative. After 3 days after the said incident, she left our house without any permission. We immediately reported this to her parents. Time passed but still no news was heard. We have now a new maid but of legal age. Years passed, and suddenly our roads had crossed each other. I have seen her near the seawall in the city but the thing that stunned me most is that she was already carry with her a child. This story is just one example of what can happen to children in our society. Is the government part of the problem? I’ll answer this question with a yes again. The government is expected to implement laws for this and make sure that these laws are nationwide followed. The government should play as the provider of the needs that the households cannot provide. It is sometimes reasonable that the government cannot provide them all but at least they will show that they are concerned to this problem. I can see that some policemen maltreat these children. Better if we just leave them alone and just catch them if they are now doing beyond the limitations. I’m disappointed to those government officials who did not do an effective action to eradicate this problem in our society. I am not an anti-government individual but I guess this is reality. Man is a power-seeker according to Thomas Hobbes so man really has the tendency to retain his power when he is in power and the outcome is that the poor will always be poor. Lastly, the poverty we are facing is the best reason why the children are into this action. Poverty is the reason why the parents cannot send their children to school, where the children are expected to learn and to socialize with our children. Poverty is also the main reason why the parents cannot provide the quality of happiness each child is longing for. The conception of poverty because of overpopulation is quite wrong. It some points it is true that this overpopulation can affect the way of living in a family but what now for China that contribute a big fraction to the world’s population. China is a big country in both economy and population. If China can make a difference why cannot we? As a conclusion, I am really against to this kind of problem in the society and besides who are happy watching children working not for themselves but to others. I am really thankful to my parents that I was raised efficiently, providing me anything that could bring to a better outcome. Time will come that I will be a parent. I am hoping that somehow there will be changes in our society that is concerned to this problem. It is still not the end for this. The solution is just there. All are aiming that this can be totally eradicated in the future.

Embed Functional Skills in Your Specialist Are

Theory 5: Evaluate a range of ways to embed elements of functional skills in your specialist area. Functional skills, according to the definition by the Qualification and Curriculum Development Agency (www. qcda. gov. uk) are practical skills that people need in order to function in everyday life. These skills are practical skills in using the English language, Mathematics and Information and Communication technology (ICT) that will enable individuals with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding to perform confidently, effectively and independently to progress in their education training and employment. As an educator you should be able to embed these skills in the curriculum catered for the foundation levels and level 2 Diplomas and GCSE, and as a stand alone qualification by its own right. In general almost every subject provides an opportunity to improve on functional skills. In the subject area I have chosen, functional Mathematics are embedded by including various metho ds of calibrating measuring equipment, making actual measurements and calculations. In addition, accuracy, reliability, errors and by comparison to true values, functional Mathematics can be used to determine the level of skills for upper levels (Level 2).Functional English can be embedded by getting the students to collate all evidence in a meaningful way and present it orally to an audience or in a written form thereby giving an opportunity to gauge their skills in English. Embedding ICT can be achieved when using a computer to research and obtain material that is relevant which will give an indication to their ability to read and understand. The level of writing and ICT skills can be tested by getting them to produce a report using a word processor including all its inbuilt functions, such as Spell check, Grammar, Thesaurus, layout and Printing etc,.In addition, presenting data in a structured way using a spreadsheet and develop presentation skills by designing and presenting usi ng software such as PowerPoint. To have a meaningful impact on the learner, the curriculum should be designed so that it will encourage the use of all these skills in an integrated way where all skills are embedded within it.Bibliography: Gravells, Ann â€Å"Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector† Third Edition, 2008. Leadership versus Management in Organization Coursework - 1

Leadership versus Management in Organization - Coursework Example Leadership involves the ability of the organization top brass to do the rights things that aim at fulfilling the objective of the organization while meeting the needs of the employees and the customers. Management, however, involves the ability of the organization to do the right thing; a process which may go beyond the ethical roles of leadership and adopt the end justifies the means mentality. Therefore, the success of any organizational management process must seek to blend leadership with management to ensure that it succeeds and achieves the overall objectives. In this paper, the different approaches of leadership and management that are essential for the successful control of any organization will be discussed. The discussion will also provide some corporate examples to demonstrate how positive approaches have benefited the overall growth of an organization while negative approaches have affected growth. Henry Mintzberg in his book ‘managing’ interrogates any distin ctions that exist between managing and leading and whether the two can be separated in the actual management process. The paper will, therefore, evaluated the views of Mintzberg and determine the extent by which leadership and management become two distinct levels in organizational management (Bennis & Nanus 2007, p.27).Management theories have been developed to explain different approaches that have been employed in organizations to enhance the performance of the employees and increase the possibility of achieving the organizational goals. Classical approaches to management and leadership have been employed with varying success in various organizations from time immemorial. This was attributed to the benefits that this approach provided to the managers which enabled them to handle the customer’s demands without compromising their internal services to the employees. Under the classical approach of management and leadership, the principle of coordination is employed and this cr eates a harmonious environment where all employees work towards the implementation of the organization’s objectives. It also offers room for the unity of action that is characterized by the respect for authority and the use of disciplined approaches that applies to all employees and managers alike.

Organisational behavior Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

Organisational behavior - Essay Example The organisation selected for this task in KnowHow, a strategic business unit of Dixons Retail Group. The paper is divided into five sections. Section one is this introduction. Section two begins with a company overview of the Dixons Retail Group that includes a description of the organisation’s human resource management. In the sub-section that follows, the paper introduces and describes the individual who has been identified as a leader within the selected organisation. Section three goes deeper into identifying the traits that make the selected individual a leader. Two different techniques are used to do this. First the paper uses the traits that a modern serial entrepreneur, Penny Herscher, uses to identify leaders within her organisation. The second approach is based on the Goleman’s academically acclaimed emotional intelligence approach. Section four measures the effectiveness of the identified leader’s leadership style using contingency theories of leaders hip proposed by Fielder, Vroom and Yetton and Lorsch. Membrane Transport and Extreme cold tolerance Essay

Membrane Transport and Extreme cold tolerance - Essay Example There are different types of membranes like the plasma membrane. The plasma membrane serves the purpose of ensuring effective transportation of compounds like nutrients, ions and metabolism. The plasma membrane provides a wall or separation between extracellular and intracellular spaces and serves a critical and important function in exchange of materials. The membrane also serves as a detective by transmitting extracellular stimuli signals. The transmission of the signal is done by the proteins contained in the membrane. The membrane is made in a way in which it withstands stress stimuli from the extracellular space. For effectiveness of transportation of compounds, the membrane should adopt to all types of stress including hot, cold and warm climates. In case the membrane is not able to cope with the stimuli in the extracellular space, transportation of materials does not take place. The cells which adapt to the stress have proteomic properties which help the cell to adopt to any e xternal condition. For growth and living a health life the organism should have a membrane that can adopt any condition.Any membrane like the plasma membrane is made to adapt to abiotic stresses. The abiotic stresses restrict the growth, distribution and reproduction of an organism. The abiotic stresses include things like extreme cold temperature, light, drought, salt and physical pressure among others. The availability of the proteomics in a membrane has shown that organism is able to cope with extreme cold temperature.

Labor Relations - 5 question essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Labor Relations - 5 question - Essay Example Key national interference in support of unionism together with the â€Å"the National Labor Relations Act of 1935† and â€Å"Norris-LaGuardia Act of 1932† (Baird, 2011) were based on the fake notion that labor and business management are mutual rivals. In reality, both labor and management are engaged by customers to manufacture products and services, and thus it creates no logic to presume a sharp difference between the two units. Labor and Management are harmonizing in nature, not rivals. Both the workforce and the management are the inputs to the manufacturing process. Recently â€Å"The National Labor Relations Board† has permitted a new regulation entailing private companies to show posters informing the employees on their right to create a union, along with their right to allocate union writing and getting associated to further forms of union operations devoid of retaliation (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 2011). Answer 2 A huge majority of agreements in the U.S . have been attained by the means of non-economic weapons like collective bargaining. In this procedure the organization representatives and the Labor discuss together their issues to arrive at a commonly satisfactory agreement. When the negotiation between the involved agents does not produce new agreements, the partakers usually go for mediator support. The unbiased mediators get together with the quarreling parties to offer them a helping hand and view the domains of harmony (Craver, 2013). The mediators search for means to tackle the domains of difference. The facilitators persuade the bargaining parties to move beyond their affirmed positions to allow them to investigate their fundamental wellbeing. If mediation fails then a type of obligatory attention arbitration approach is followed that unites final proposal and conservative interest arbitration (Laner and Manning, 2013). The major benefits of such non economic approaches are saving a lot of time while the main limitation i s spending a huge sum of money for the discussed procedure. Answer 3 Off shoring advantages- Cost: cost saving and taxes saving are the key reasons for firms taking on off shoring. Firms can cut the labor charges, worker administration and organization cost, workplace room and apparatus cost and list continues. Making the most of the â€Å"Time Zone Advantage†: Off shoring offers the firms the benefits of developing the time zone by getting surround the clock advantages. Flexibility: The process of off shoring offers the firms with definite flexibilities involving the elimination of appointing and extinction charges in the other nation (Light speed IT solutions, 2012). Off shoring disadvantages- Political environment:  the Political environment in overseas nations is a major source of insecurity as these can be unbalanced at times. Alteration in management policies can amplify the expenditure. Differences in work culture and practices - A vast divergence remains always in t he job culture and that are tough to conquer. Hidden charges:  frequently the unseen cost like legal charges and changeable exchange rate are hard to determine in advance. Variations in currency rates influence the profits to a great extent. Communication hurdle:  It is a lot hard to correspond with firms in other nations that converse in a diverse native dialect. Face to face conferences are very costly

The price of X7 can be offered at $180 keeping in mind the perception of the customers regarding the product. The performance of the product can be better understood with the following table. Source: (Elson, n.d.) From the above table, it can be stated that the performance of X7 is not quite satisfactory at the growth stage but increased as well as remained constant at the maturity stages. It can be stated that Clipboard successfully managed to maintain a steady growth of X7 product as compared to Joe as the products of Joe showed no s igns of growth and remained steady. The financial information about X7 product of Clipboard has been provided hereunder. Development Decision Clipboard would decide the potential of the products on the basis of their performance in the market. All the three products performed differently in the market irrespective of price as well as performance. In this similar concern, it can be stated that the company would have to focus more upon the areas of research and development as well as different

Taxation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 3

Taxation - Essay Example The Australian taxation of capital gains has been aligned with the international norms.1 A half of the capital gains that individuals realize on assets they have held for twelve months and more, the effective tax rate is half the rate charged on other forms of incomes. The different events or transactions that give rise to either a capital loss or capital gains are called capital gains tax events. A full gamut of these events exist, and some of them frequently occur and affect many individuals while others are not common and affect few individuals.2 The knowledge of the various types of capital gains tax events is imperative since it influences how an individual works out his or her capital gains or capital losses. In addition, it affects the timing of such capital losses or capital gains. In case there is the occurrence of more than one capital gains tax events, the one used is one that that is most specific to the situation.3 Therefore, among the capital gains tax events are: the destruction or loss, which may be involuntary or voluntary, of an asset; cancellation, redemption or surrender of shares; the disposal of depreciating assets that are wholly or partly used for private purposes; where an individual ceases to be a resident of Australia; w hen an entity enters into a conservation covenant; making of payments by a company to a shareholder; where financial instruments are declared to be worthless by a liquidator; where an individual makes a contract to stop working in a given sector for some agreed upon the period; where a trustee makes a non-assessable payment; compensation payment; and making payments to a business by a local council after destruction of its assets. However, it should be noted that subdivision of land does not give rise to a capital gains tax event but a sale of any of the subdivision gives rise to a capital gains tax event4. The benefits made give rise to a capital gains tax event. When capital gains are made from compensation made

Dynamic Domain Name Server Essay Example for Free

Dynamic Domain Name Server Essay The DNS is the IETF a standardized name service which enable the computer clients on a network to successfully register as well as resolve their DNS domain names. Such names are used in resource access by computers in a networked environment and from other connected networks. The Domain name space The DNS Name Server is a server that stores the domain name space and the related resource records. It also responds to queries requested by the DNS clients. The Domain Name Service query operation A query operation is issued by the DNS client to the DNS server to get either the entire or part of the resource record information that is associated to a certain domain. In case the domain and the resource record exist, the Domain Name Service responds to the query with required information in a form of query respond message. This replied query message changes the initial query and the response with the necessary records provided the DNS server is able to get the required resource record. The DNS query identified in the RFC 1034 is a typical query that comprise of the target domains name, the query class and the query type. A request for a particular resource record is submitted in the query for intended domain resolver. DNS Zones The DNS server that contains full information for a particular DNS name space is considered to have the authority on such name space. In addition, the authoritative information in the server is organized into smaller units referred to as zones that are the major units for DNS replications. The Domain Name Server administrator is responsible for the management and maintenance of DNS namespace, the DNS clients, the zone propagation, DNS zones, and the DNS servers. The administrator also maintains the network security through the anticipation and the control of the new security threats. The Domain Name Server administrator is concerned with the DNS integration with several other windows server services. Conclusion The Domain Name Server that stores full information for a particular DNS name space is considered to be authoritative on such a name space. References Mockapetris, P. , (2003). Oedipus The King Essay Example for Free

Oedipus The King Essay Oedipus is written as a play, there is no narrator, Sophocles explains the story line and then runs the story into playwright. I like this point of view because it can sometimes be more clear to the reader. There are many points of view in this play. That is there are many different individuals addressed this playwright. Thus there are many different points of view. I think that Oedipus generally speaks in place of a narrator, because he is the main character. I believe he expresses some of the things that Sophocles is trying to say to the audience. An example of this is when he says: Speak out, speak to us all. I grieve for these, my people, far more that I fear for my own life. (Sophocles, 395) I think that Sophocles is trying to get people to speak their own mind, come together, and establish a community. He is saying this through Oedipus. Oedipus goes through many changes. He goes through a state of innocence or ignorance, then through a state of denial and finally a state of acceptance and guilt. Throughout these different stages in his life, he reveals to his audience who he really is. Oedipus believing he is innocent is part of the form in this play. Oedipus has come to the throne of Thebes by solving the Riddle of the Sphinx. There is a plague upon Thebes which Oedipus desires to heal. Creon returns to the palace after his visit to the Pythian House of Phoebus, an oracle. The oracle has said that the only way to cure the illness in Thebes is to find the man whom killed Laius, the previous king of Thebes. Odeipus tries to discover the murderer and requests that the murderer come forward and promises that instead of being killed, he will be banished from Thebes. If any man comes forward with the murderer he will be rewarded and if any guilty man is found and has not confessed, the murderer will be banished from all aspects of society. Tiresias, an aged, blind prophet is brought to Oedipus to reveal the murderer. Tiresias says that Oedipus unknowingly killed Laius. Disbelieving this, Oedipus blames Creon for plotting this against him to gain the throne  of Thebes. Tiresias states his innocence and before he leaves the palace, he gives Oedipus a riddle: The murderer seemed an alien is really a native to Theban, was once poor and now is rich, is the brother of his children and the child of his wife, the heir to his fathers bed and the cause of his fathers death. The form in this part of the play, plays into the certain buildup of the plot. Now Creon comes to the palace after hearing of Oedipus charges against him. Oedipus questions Creon as to why Tiresias didnt come forward when the initial investigation of Laius death occured. Creon says he is happy with his position in court and has no desire to take the throne from Oedipus. He tells Oedipus that for proof he can go to the oracle at Pytho and ask if Creon is telling the truth. Jocasta, Oedipus wife, tells him that an oracle came to Laius saying that he would die by the hand of his child. Learning this Laius has his newborn son tied at the ankles and taken away to be killed. She says that Laius was killed by robbers on his way to the oracle at Delphi at the place where three roads meet. The content of this play is that of Greek tragedy, son of Laius, king of Thebes, and his wife, Jocasta. Laius had been warned by an oracle that he was fated to be killed by his own son; he therefore abandoned Oedipus on a mountainside. The baby was rescued, however, by a shepherd and brought to the king of Corinth, who adopted him. When Oedipus is grown, he learns from the oracle that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He fled Corinth to escape this fate, believing his foster parents to be his real parents. At a crossroad Oedipus encountered Laius(his father), and killed him. He continued on to Thebes, where the Sphinx was talking and all who could not solve her riddle. Oedipus answered it correctly and so he won the widowed queens hand(his mother). The prophecy was fulfilled. Two sons, Polynices and Eteocles, and two daughters, Antigone and Ismene, were born to the unwittingly incestuous pair. When a plague descended on  Thebes, an oracle declared that the only way to rid the land of its illness was to expel the murderer of Laius. Through a series of painful revelations, the king learned the truth and in an agony of horror blinded himself. His daughters, Antigone and Ismene, are left in the hands of Kreon, who proves to be a true friend of Oedipus. The content of this play regarding time is that the time wasnt very specific, but it does say that Sophocles lived from 496-406 BC. The place on the other hand is very specific, it introduces you saying: The royal house of Thebes. Double doors dominate the facade, a stone altar stands at the center of the stage. Many years have passed since Oedipus has solved the riddle of the Sphinx and ascended the throne of Thebes, and now a plague has struck the city. A procession of priests enters ¦(Sophocles, 392) I think that this introduction leads the reader into a world of curiosity. We really dont know what is going to happen to Oedipus, all we know is there is a plague across the town that Oedipus must do something about. This leads the reader into Oedipus stages of innocence or ignorance, denial and finally guilt. The content in the choice of setting affects the theme because it makes this story more believable, in a time unfamiliar to us, long ago.
